Learn About Our Project:
For seven years, StarKid Productions has brought you original musical comedies that have spanned almost all of time and space. ALMOST. For our TENTH original production, we’re going back… Way back.
Firebringer is a new, stone-age musical about a tribe of early humans led by Jemilla, the Peacemaker. She's called that because she taught her people how to express their feelings instead of smashing each others' heads with rocks or eating each others' babies. No, Jemilla stands for good, modern stone-age values, like working hard and trying to understand the world. But one member of the tribe doesn't seem to fit in: Zazzalil. She doesn't like gathering nuts and berries all day, everyday. In fact, she's always trying to come up with ways to make life easier… for herself. Like the time she invented lying, so she wouldn't have to do work and could just say that she did.
While out testing her latest hair-brained scheme, Zazzalil stumbles upon the most important discovery in human history. One that will take her and her tribe on a whirlwind adventure, pitting them against giant birds, woolly mammoths, and the most deadly predator alive- Snarl.
She'll travel from omega to alpha and become… The Firebringer.
Firebringer will run as a part of the StarKid Summer Season 2016 featuring various late night performances showcasing many of your StarKid favorites, and some new faces as well!
Firebringer will run from July 6th-August 7th at Stage 773 in Chicago, Il. It's a funny, female-led, heartwarming social satire and we want YOU involved!
So join us in bringing the Fire, and starting something special in Chicago for Summer 2016!
Then, come fall/winter 2016, we'll put Firebringer up on YouTube for the whole world to see (just like we've done with all our shows).
Firebringer is being written by:
Nick Lang, Matt Lang, Meredith Stepien and Brian Holden
It will be co-directed by Nick Lang and Julia Albain
Original music is being written by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski
Our design team includes: Corey Lubowich as our scenic designer, June Saito as our costume designer, and Sarah Petty as our lighting designer.
Info about casting will be released as our campaign unfolds!
The $88,000 that we are asking for will cover:
Theater rental, hiring actors, hiring designers (set, costume, light, and sound), hiring a band, Kickstarter fulfillment, costumes, set, lighting, rehearsal space rental, travel and housing, filming, sound, props, and puppets!
$88,000 is a lot of money, but after fees and Kickstarter fulfillment it will only cover a bare-bones version of the production. To produce Firebringer as we believe it should be done we hope to raise $125,000. This number is much closer to the actual cost of doing a StarKid show. Starship, Holy Musical, B@man, Twisted, and the last Summer Season all cost around $150,000 to produce!
